908 Devices, a pioneer of purpose-built handheld and desktop devices for chemical and biomolecular analysis, on January 7th announced that GlaxoSmithKline has purchased an additional REBEL™ cell culture media analyzer. GSK will now have a total of five REBEL analyzers being used by its biologics and vaccine process development teams.

The new A50 and A70 thermal cameras come in three options—Smart, Streaming, and Research & Development to fit the needs of professionals across a variety of industries—from manufacturing to utilities to science.  The new cameras offer improved accuracy of ±2°C or ±2% temperature measurement, compared to the previous accuracy of ±5°C, or ±5% temperature measurement. The cameras all include an IP66 rating, along with a small, compact size with higher resolution options compared to previous versions.

Teledyne Technologies Incorporated announced on January 18th that Dr. JihFen Lei has been promoted to Executive Vice President of Teledyne FLIR Defense, one of the leading providers of thermal imaging, unmanned systems, and intelligent sensing solutions to global security and public safety markets.

During the course of 2021, Environics received a remarkable amount of CBRN Monitoring Systems orders for 21 vessels. The range of vessels in which Environics CBRN Monitoring Systems will be installed comprises six different types of ships: MCMV (Mine Counter Measure Vessel), MMPV (Multipurpose Modular Patrol Vessels), OPV for Coast Guard, Rescue ship, Support Ship, Pollution control vessel.

Bruker Corporation announced on January 19th the acquisition of Prolab Instruments GmbH, a Swiss technology company specialized in low-flow, high precision liquid chromatography technology and systems. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Established in 1988, ProLab’s innovations center around micro and nano-UHPLC pump technology, resulting in the development of the unique Zirconium™ split-less pump technology for flow rates from nano-flow (4-800 nL/min) to cap-flow (1-10 µL/min) regimes. The Zirconium™ Ultra nano- and cap-UHPLC system supports a broad range of flow rates from 4 nL/min to 10 µL/min at 1000 bar (15,000 psi), and is suitable for cap-LC in high-throughput proteomics and metabolomics.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, and PeproTech, Inc., a leading developer and manufacturer of recombinant proteins, on January 5th announced that Thermo Fisher completed its acquisition of PeproTech on December 30, 2021, for a total cash purchase price of approximately $1.85 billion. Based in Cranbury, New Jersey, PeproTech is a privately held provider of bioscience reagents known as recombinant proteins, including cytokines and growth factors.

SIGA Technologies, Inc., a commercial-stage pharmaceutical company focused on the health security market, on January 10th announced that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) approved SIGA’s Marketing Authorisation Application (MAA) for oral tecovirimat, the same formulation that was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in July 2018 under the brand name TPOXX®. The EMA approval includes labeling for oral tecovirimat indicating its use for the treatment of smallpox, monkeypox, cowpox, and vaccinia complications following vaccination against smallpox.
